Soothing Baby Clinic success!
We are really delighted to report that our screening service trial, the Soothing Baby Clinic at Lucks Yard Clinic, Milford UK was a great success. We demonstrated that an integrated rapid assessment service works well and is desperately needed in the new parent community. We received very positive feedback from the parents who attended with their young babies, parents reported feeling relieved to be seeing trained professionals and getting the support and advice they needed. Many of the babies seen had undiagnosed tongue ties which was affecting their feeding ability and therefore, contributing to being unsettled and distressed. We were delighted to help them and signpost parents in the right direction, finding further professional support if needed.
We achieved a consistent 70+% success rate with the Qudo Soother™ on babies who used it in the clinic and also discovered that the soother suited a lot of different tongue tie babies. If you have a restricted tongue and tongue movement – it is probably easier for infants to find relief with a denser teat like the Qudo Soother™ and this is a really positive outcome for the baby and parents.
We are also grateful for the help of three other chiropractors in the UK who have independently trialled the latest soother on young infants and contributed to the test results.
The dynamics of birth and the experiences of caring for a new baby in the early few weeks can be really challenging for everyone in the family, especially since the restrictions imposed by the Covid 19 pandemic. In the screening service, we also identified and advised parents about musculoskeletal imbalances contributing to their babies’ discomfort – not a surprise to us, we see this regularly, but it was lovely to be able to share this knowledge and give parents support in this area.
If you are struggling with an infant, always check whether there is a missed tongue tie issue (tongue ties occur in 1:10 babies), seek appropriate professional help and advice. Click here for more information: Tongue Tie information on NHS website
Uncomfortable or distressed babies can benefit from professional cranial treatment to alleviate their discomfort. Our tip for seeking care from paediatric focused Chiropractors and Osteopaths, is to get a local recommendation from friends and family, or look for qualified and registered practitioners in your area by searching on websites such as the General Chiropractic Council or the General Osteopathic Council
Should you have questions or are unsure about whether a particular treatment approach is right for you and your baby – do call practitioners and ask them questions. It is a specialist discipline and so we recommend you find the right practitioner who you can build a rapport with and has the right skills/experience for your baby’s needs.
